Big screws in Northern Europe’s heaviest cold-forging machine

– We are happy to now be able to offer our own manufacturing of cold-forged details from wire up
to Ø25. This means that we reach an outer diameter of approximately 40 millimeters, and by that completing our commitment to offering the widest range of fasteners, says Managing Director
Ingvar Mattsson.
The machine has been produced in Italy and has been constructed for fast tool changes and with a weight that makes it easier to keep precision when jolting heavy details. The machine requires an area of 500 square meters and weighs approximately 80 tonnes, so the premises have been prepared with new concrete foundations. Together with the cold-forging machine is a thread cutting machine that threads up to M20 and at the same time fits a washer under the head of the screw. The machine investment is made to produce a specialist detail to the car industry and will increase Wulkan’s production capacity considerably.

Cold-forging is when you shape details such as screws, axles, rivets etc. from cold iron wire in an automatic lathe.
